Linux net stack supports OCF crypto, multi-core MIPS64

6Wind has updated its embedded Linux networking stack for multi-service IP gateways of all sizes. 6WindGate v.2.8 features support for multi-core MIPS64 processors, support for standard-compliant IPsec crytography hardware, and an XML-based management API said to support integration with UTM (unified threat management) software.

6Wind says its 6WindGate stack targets networking and security system vendors building “converging multi-service IP gateways for SOHO, SME, enterprise, and ISP applications.” The stack provides routing, security, QoS (quality-of-service), mobility, and IPv4-6 support, and comes with an XML-based management system. The stack has been validated on x86, IXP4xx, IXP2xxx, and multi-core MIPS64 processors from Cavium and Raza, according to the company.

6WindGate 2.8 implements a “fast-path-ready” architecture said to support the OCF (OpenBSD Cryptographic Framework) standard, an API said to have been adopted by leading processor vendors for IPsec hardware crypto-accelerators. The OCF API “provides uniform access to accelerator functionality by hiding card-specific details,” 6Wind says.

Additionally, 6WindGate claims 6WindGate 2.8 to be the first IP stack to be validated on multi-core MIPS64 processors.

COO Eric Carmes stated, “Our release 2.8 ensures that [6WindGate's] Linux-based open and friendly development architecture and interfaces can also leverage latest processor and hardware technology made for high-performing security applications.”

6WindGate is available now, according to the company. Pricing was not disclosed.
