MontaVista and MySQL say they have jointly validated and will collaboratively market the MySQL and MySQL Cluster databases on MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) and Professional Edition. The companies will demonstrate their joint solution at this week's LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco.

MontaVista's Linux distributions have been tested and optimized to “support the unique demands of MySQL-driven embedded applications for telecommunications companies and networking equipment providers,” according to a statement released by both companies.

MySQL AB Director of Alliances Bertrand Matthelié said, “MySQL is increasingly being used for embedded applications, in everything from network appliances to sales kiosks. We are raising our relationship with MontaVista to one of our highest partnership levels.”

MySQL says a bevy of leading telecom and datacom leaders use MySQL, including AdventNet, Alcatel, Aprisma, Atchik, Cox Communications, F5 Networks, Onlinetel, Siemens and Tekelec.

MontaVista announced Carrier Grade support for Berkeley Systems Sleepycat embedded database two weeks ago, while recent Carrier Grade Linux competitor Enea last week announced a Linux port of its Polyhedra embedded database.
