Sunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software Inc. today announced plans to support Intel's new IXC1100 control plane processor, a highly integrated system-on-a-chip designed for use in next-generation telecommunication equipment such as multi-service switches, VoIP media gateways, and wireless infrastructure.

By combining the high performance and extremely low power consumption of an Intel XScale core with a rich suite of interconnects, the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor provides the performance and headroom to handle a variety of compute-intensive tasks involving deep packet inspection on line cards and blades.

MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 2.1, optimized for the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor, is expected to be available toward the end of the year.
