PalmOS ecosystem welcomes mobile Linux developers

Aug 14, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Access/PalmSource is inviting developers interested in targeting its Linux-based mobile phone stack to join a new “Access Developer Network” (ADN) online community. Currently, new ADN registrants are redirected to the company's pre-existing PalmOS Developer Pavillion, which, with 420,000 registrants, is probably the largest mobile application ecosystem in the world.

Access/PalmSource says ADN will attract and serve as a technical and business resource for developers targeting its Access Linux Platform (ALP), a Linux-based operating system and application stack for mobile phones. ALP includes a “GHost compatibility engine” designed to offer forward-compatibility with approximately 25,000 legacy PalmOS applications, according to the company.

Larry Berkin, senior director of PalmSource's developer ecosystem, stated, “PalmSource has a great history building successful developer ecosystem.”

Availability

The ADN is online now, although it currently redirects to the pre-existing PalmOS Developer Pavillion. Additional details, including a registration form, may be available here.
