Research Triangle Park — (press release excerpt) — Red Hat, Inc. today announced a strategic agreement with Motorola, Inc. to develop a GNUPro toolchain and cross compiler for Motorola's Book E PowerPC e500 core-based processors — including the new MPC8560 PowerQUICC III.

The GNUPro toolchain consists of a Solaris 2.7 on SPARC cross toolchain for the Motorola's e500 core. With Red Hat's GNUPro development toolchain, Motorola's customers are further equipped to develop next generation networking, communications and embedded applications.

“Red Hat's GNUPro tools expertise allows us to create a toolchain with the functionality and quality that customers like Motorola expect, “said Paul Cormier, EVP of Engineering at Red Hat. “Our support for Motorola's e500 core lets their customers use Linux-based applications, and further extends Linux development to embedded devices.”
