RFID tags to make waves in 2004, study finds

A market research report published by Allied Business Intelligence (ABI) looks at the sudden importance of RFID (Radio Frequency ID), a fascinating technology that replaces fragile and tedious barcode tags with tiny and inexpensive transponders that can be probed by radio transceivers.

According to the study's findings, RFID will become an enterprise priority for manufacturers and suppliers that work with Walmart and the U.S. Department of Defense, which have both decreed mandates around the technology targeting 2005.
