COMDEX Canada panel to answer “Why Embedded Linux?”

Lineo has announced that the company's Vice President of Engineering, Kim Clark, will participate in a COMDEX Canada “Power Panel” discussion on “Why Embedded Linux?” The event takes places on Thursday, July 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Linux Business Expo featured at this week's COMDEX Canada 2000. Lineo announces Geode SOC support

Lineo and National Semiconductor today announced an agreement to co-develop Linux based software development kits for the Information Appliance (IA) market. Target applications include set-top boxes, web pads, and other such devices. The reference platforms will be based on Embedix, Lineo's embedded Linux operating system and tools software, and will support National's Geode processor hardware reference… (more…)

BLAST Inc. (Pittsboro, NC) has launched a new website dedicated to the embedded Linux market: www.SiliconPenguin.com. In his announcement of the site, BLAST president Steve Rogers said “www.SiliconPenguin.com is dedicated to gathering and presenting the most comprehensive index of information on embedded Linux. Free simulator enables desktop debug of RTLinux apps

CarbonKernel.org has announced CarbonKernel 1.2, a GPL-released real-time operating system (RTOS) API simulator that includes the first public release of a simulation model mimicking RTLinux, the popular real-time Linux add-on. The simulator allows tracing the execution of embedded software at source code level, and provides concurrent target debugging capabilities, UI simulation, and more. (more…)

Yellow Dog embraces RTLinux

Terra Soft Solutions and FSMLabs have announced that RTLinux for PowerPC will be included in the next release of Terra Soft's Black Lab Linux distribution, and also in future releases of Champion Server. comp.os.linux.embedded passes 500:8

Speech comes to the web

SpeechWorks International, Inc. (Boston, MA) has announced an initiative called the Open Speech Web, aimed at creating a speech-based implementation of the World Wide Web. The proposed network of interconnected speech services will allow consumers to “speech-surf” or to connect to speech-aware applications simply by speaking commands into a telephone or Internet-enabled audio input device.
