TimeSys offers pSOS users a penguin PAL

Adding to support previously announced by embedded Linux suppliers Lineo and MontaVista (see references, below), TimeSys today announced a pSOS Abstraction Layer (PAL) that works in conjunction with the company's Linux/RT embedded Linux distribution. GNU telephony server project (Bayonne) hits Milestone #4

Microwindows adds Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean fonts

Microwindows v0.88 will provide greatly enhanced support for Far Eastern languages. The new release adds support for Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean fonts, using four different character encoding standards. Red Hat announces high availability clustered server S/W

Red Hat has announced a specialized version of the Red Hat Linux 6.2 distribution called “the Red Hat High Availability Server 1.0”. The new product is described as “an out-of-the-box clustering solution that features dynamic load balancing, improved fault tolerance, and scalability of TCP/IP based applications.” (more…)

Embedded Linux to support Hitachi SuperH

Lineo Inc. and Hitachi Semiconductor have announced plans to port Lineo's Embedix Linux software to Hitachi's SuperH RISC microprocessors. SST unveils “industry’s first 32-pin ATA Flash chips”

SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.) has announced a new Flash storage option for the embedded market, the ATA-Disk Chip (ADC), which the company claims represents the industry's first ATA Flash drive in a common 32-pin DIP IC package. Since the ADC mimics normal IDE drives, from both a hardware and software perspective, designing embedded Linux systems with it should be simple. (more…)
