Cross-platform driver dev kit supports Linux kernel 2.6

Jungo has added support for Linux kernel 2.6 and other new features to its WinDriver cross-platform driver development kit. WinDriver lets programmers write user space drivers that are source compatible across a number of platforms, the company claims. (more…)

Linux leads point-of-sale OS growth, but faces obstacles

Linux was the fastest growing operating system in the point-of-sale (POS) terminal market in 2003, according to a study by IHL Consulting Group. However, Linux's market share is still quite small, and adoption has slowed since Microsoft released Windows XP Embedded (XPe) launched on Nov. 28, 2001, IHL says. (more…)

Open source CVS alternative achieves stable release

Collaborative tools and consulting firm CollabNet says the BSD-licensed version control system it has sponsored for three years has achieved a stable release. Subversion 1.0 is intended as an enterprise-ready replacement for CVS (Concurrent Versions System) that, when combined with “CollabNet environment” tools, creates a fully-functional Software Configuration Management System (SCMS). MontaVista signs Nordic, Oz distributors

MontaVista Software has announced two new distribution partnerships that will expand its channel in the South Pacific and Nordic regions. LynuxWorks to announce Eclipse-based embedded Linux dev tools

MIPS-based core to run Linux, Java byte code in parallel
