RTAI release brings real-time add-ons to Linux 2.6

Project Leader Paolo Mantegazza reports that a test version of RTAI-3.1 is available for download, featuring real-time support for Linux 2.4.xx and 2.6.x. The release may represent the first implementation of real-time performance in the 2.6-series kernel, according to Mantegazza. (more…)

Geode GX1 based Mini-ITX SBC supports fanless operation

Taiwan Commate Computer Inc. (Commell) announced a high-integration single-board computer in the compact (170 x 170 mm) Mini-ITX form-factor, based on a 300MHz AMD Geode GX1 (x86-compliant) processor. Commell says the LV-650 is well suited for fanless embedded, industrial, and mobile computing applications and supports Linux. (more…)

Software tool aims to assess IP risks of re-used code

Black Duck Software is beta testing a software product that aims to help Linux developers assess the intellectual property (IP) risks associated with the re-use of program code. The company expects to ship in mid-May its Black Duck product, comprising a giant database of software source code and associated licensing information, and a client-server source code comparison tool. Dual-licensed embeddable SSL library achieves first stable release

PeerSec Networks has achieved the first stable release of its dual-licensed Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) library created specifically for devices running Linux and other embedded operating systems. MatrixSSL 1.0 includes host and client implementations under 50KB each, and can secure socket-based communications on “even the smallest devices,” the company says. (more…)

Intel adds four new mobile Pentiums

Intel announced four new mobile Pentium processor variants today. The latest Pentium M and Celeron M processors range from 900 MHz to 1.4 GHz clock speeds with power consumptions from 7 to 24.5 Watts, and are based on Intel's 0.13-micron manufacturing technology (see table, below). (more…)

Embedded Linux supports ARM-based SoCs for networking devices

NetSilicon is offering a uClinux software development kit (SDK) for its NET+50 system-on-chip (SoC), and will soon release a full Linux SDK for its recently introduced NS9750 chip. The ARM-based SoCs integrate networking functions, and target point-of-sale (POS) terminals, networked displays, projectors, thin clients, and access control applications. (more…)
