CodeWarrior supports Tao’s ‘intent’ media platform

Austin, TX –(press release excerpt) — Metrowerks is shipping a new set of tools that enables application and content development for Tao Group's 'intent', a high performance, portable media platform for consumer devices.

CodeWarrior Development Tools for intent is the first and only fully featured, integrated development environment for intent. The toolset allows for 'pre-platform' applications development, which means developers can begin creating applications before the device is ready. Once hardware engineering is complete, the code base can then be moved to the prototype device. This makes it possible for software and hardware development to go on concurrently. The toolset supports intent, Java Technology Edition, a Sun Authorized Java compliant and branded engine that runs real world, rich multimedia Java content extraordinarily fast and in very small footprints.

Tao's intent provides a complete and portable framework that allows developers to easily create multimedia content, such as advanced video games, that run on connected digital appliances and low-end client devices. The intent suite is available as a binary portable content engine on various operating systems including Linux and Embedded Linux. Tao's intent can also run in “native” mode, using the powerful intent real time kernel at the heart of the intent system, designed by Tao from its inception as a multimedia, deterministic operating system that is being incorporated into many devices, especially in Japan.

CodeWarrior Development Tools for intent Media Platform, Java Technology Edition, is available today for Intel processors. A version for Hitachi's SH3 processors will be available in May 2002.
