Tri-M Systems and Engineering (Port Coquitlam, BC) today announced the the TMZ104, a PC/104 form-factor x86 single-board computer (SBC) featuring the recently announced embedded version of Transmeta's Crusoe processor family, the SE TM5500 CPU. The compact (3.6 x 3.8 in.) SBC is possibly the world's first PC/104 module to use Transmeta's new embedded Crusoe processor, which features a VLIW processor running at either 367MHz or 500MHz, along with unique code morphing software.

Onboard functions include an SO-DIMM module for up to 288MB SDRAM, two RS-232 serial ports, parallel port, USB port, IC BUS, dual watchdog timers, and EIDE and floppy drive interfaces. A 32-pin DIP socket for M-Systems DiskOnChip supports up to 1GB of Flash. The SBC's BIOS can boot Linux, Windows (9x/NT), VxWorks, and most other PC compatible RTOSes. The module runs from a single 5VDC power source and includes advanced power management support to minimize power consumption.

“This SBC will be of interest to anyone looking to embedded x86 technology in hostile, mobile, industrial, military, medical, or telecom environments, where low power, small board size, and fanless operation are key design factors,” said Tri-M president Doug Stead

Pricing is less than $300 USD in single unit orders, according to Stead, with OEM discounts available. A -40C to +85C extended temperature version is available off-the-shelf, he said.
