Beijing, China — Shenzhen SED Business Equipment Co. Ltd., a large POS hardware supplier in China, has won the Beijing City Tax Terminal tender to provide point-of-sale (POS) tax terminals to customers in Beijing. For this project they have selected Hong Kong based, Emsoft, to provide embedded Linux software and Cirrus Logic to provide the processor chips. The tax terminal devices will be manufactured in Southern China.

The new tax terminal devices will help Chinese retailers compute their sales taxes and let Beijing know how much sales tax it's owed. In China, the amount of taxes collected could reach into the tens of billions of dollars. The device will meet the tax control requirements by featuring:

  • ergonomical, streamlined design
  • simple operation
  • invoice encryption and processing capabilities
  • invoice data, report, inquiry and printing capabilities
  • Chinese pinyin, handwriting input
  • external encryption modules or IC card encryption
  • on-line software upgrades
  • power loss data backup
