Nov 17, 1999 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

PROSA has announced that the an alpha version of the new EtLinux Version 1.2 has just been released and is available for download at: ftp://ftp.prosa.it/pub/etlinux/etlinux-1.2.

The following files are available in this directory:

etlinux-1.2-src.tar.gz (full sources, 30.2MB)
etlinux-1.2-pkg.tar.gz (precompiled version, 5.2MB)

Please note that this distribution is an alpha version.

Here is a list of changes in this latest version of EtLinux:

  • EtLinux is now glibc 2.1.2 based
  • Many packages upgraded/added
  • ORBit-0.5.0, a free Open Source CORBA implementation has been included
  • Remote administration support through mcserv, allowing to browse the filesystem of an etlinux box from a remote machine (see README.mcserv)
  • Some minor modifications to the build mechanism, to handle more gently errors during the build process, and to allow packages which are actually symlinks to other packages
As a result of the libc change, it is now possible to compile programs for an EtLinux system without the need to resort to a libc5 development environment.

About EtLinux

EtLinux is a complete Linux system designed to run on small industrial computers. It has a development kit that let you recompile the distribution with the software and options that you need. For example, you can have a real-time version with corba support, leaving out the webserver. The result is available as both a compressed tar of the whole system and as an image ready to be dumped on an 8MB M-Systems DiskOnChip (/dev/fla). The tarball comes with documentation and example applications that have been tested to run on small computers.
