Debian/ARM developer Vincent Sanders has published a detailed, technical guide to booting ARM Linux. Sanders was sponsored by UK single board computer designer and ARM Linux consultancy Simtec in the project, and assisted by ARM Linux creator Russell King, Wookey, and a host of ARM and Linux kernel developers.

Sanders handles kernel issues and maintains the installer system (“boot-floppies”) for Debian's ARM Linux port.

The guide covers:

  2. Other bootloaders, including Blob, Bootldr, Redboot, and ABLE
  3. Overview
  4. Configuring the system's memory
  5. Loading the kernel image
  6. Loading an initial RAM disk
  7. Initializing a console
  8. Kernel parameters
  9. Obtaining the ARM Linux machine type
  10. Starting the kernel
    1. Tag Reference
    2. Complete example
  11. Bibliography

Sanders's guide is published under the GNU General Public License, and is available in HTML, PDF, or DocBook, at the Simtec Website.
