Lineo adds Java-based database to Embedix

Feb 14, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Lindon, UT — (press release excerpt) — Lineo and PointBase announced a strategic partnership to target the embedded systems market with Lineo's embedded Linux operating system and PointBase's Java-based database management software. The companies will integrate PointBase's 100% Pure Java object-relational database management software with the Lineo Embedix SDK. In addition, Lineo and PointBase will seek opportunities to co-market and jointly sell their integrated solutions to development teams and device manufacturers who are designing web-centric, mobile, and embedded device applications.

Because Java is platform independent, it is becoming increasingly important as a broad array of smart devices — appliances, wireless handhelds, and smart cell phone platforms — enter the market. By creating an integrated embedded Linux Java development platform, PointBase and Lineo hope to offer increased flexibility in embedded systems development, speeding time to market and reducing deployment and maintenance costs.
