Lindon, UT — (press release excerpt) — Lineo today announced Lineo Academix, a scholastic program designed to prepare industry professionals and students for the expanding field of embedded Linux programming. The program consists of three subdivisions — Lineo Academix Collegiate, Lineo Academix Industry, and Lineo Academix Partner — intended to allow academia, industry professionals, and private… training institutions to utilize leading-edge educational embedded systems content and programming tools from Lineo.

  • Lineo Academix Collegiate — The Lineo Academix Collegiate program is a curriculum designed for accredited four-year, two-year and vocational schools to prepare students in programming embedded Linux systems and technology. The program allows students to use industry proven Linux software and hardware solutions in a Linux environment before they enter the workforce.

Lineo Academix Collegiate courseware allows students to program in an embedded Linux environment using powerful but inexpensive hardware. One of the strengths of Lineo Academix Collegiate is the student purchase kit, which includes “An Introduction to Embedded Programming in a Linux Environment” (the Academix textbook), software and development hardware. Students are able to keep the hardware and continue programming even after they have completed the course, allowing them to maintain their embedded programming skills and knowledge.

Beginning January 2001, several universities and colleges worldwide such as UNLV will be using Lineo Academix Collegiate in their curriculums. Because of its open source nature, the Linux operating system is currently used by universities to instruct students in advanced programming courses. The Academix Collegiate program will enhance the Linux instruction currently available at many colleges and universities by providing students with hands-on training in the latest Linux and embedded systems technology.

The Academix courseware is authored by a premiere team of industry professionals — PhDs in electrical engineering and computer science, experienced Linux programmers and instructional designers. The modular structure of the courseware allows Lineo Academix Collegiate to be seamlessly integrated or customized to any engineering or computer science curriculum.

  • Lineo Academix Industry

Lineo Academix Industry extends the Lineo Academix Collegiate offering with high-quality training to Lineo customers on predesigned and custom embedded systems software. This training helps customers reduce time-to-market for their products.

Academix Industry courses currently available include an introduction to embedded Linux programming with uClinux microcontroller operating system, embedded Linux programming with Embedix SDK and programming in a real-time environment. Custom courseware can be generated to focus on customer needs or customer projects within a specific industry. Academix Industry is an ideal way to start a concept project using the Embedix operating system and Embedded RealTime from Lineo.

  • Lineo Academix Partner

The Lineo Academix Partner program allows private training facilities to be licensed by Lineo to deliver the same collegiate embedded systems courses to the general public and industry professionals. Individuals
seeking Linux training will now be able to quickly develop their embedded programming skills through the Academix Partner program.
