Fort Lauderdale, FL — (press release excerpt) — Metro Link and Lineo today announced a strategic relationship to provide Linux-based Digital TV, Residential Gateway, and connected home solutions to manufacturers of products targeted for home networking and the storage, playback, management, and distribution of digital content in the home. The relationship leverages the strengths of both companies: the Lineo Embedix embedded Linux operating system, Residential Gateway software stack, and award-winning SDK to customize solutions, and Metro Link's software suite for the emerging Internet-enabled home media center and Universal Plug and Play software for these network appliances.

“Home convergence is all about digital content, content distribution, and devices that communicate over wireline, power line, and wireless networks in the home,” said Keith Kelly, Metro Link President and COO. “Metro Link's home media center and networking solutions are ideally combined with the Lineo Embedix operating system and unique integration toolkit. This integrated solution allows the creation of a complete software stack for set-top boxes (STB), personal video recorders (PVR), DVD, MP3, Residential Gateways and Home Convergence solutions in record time.”

This joint marketing relationship, allows both companies to aggressively capitalize on this emerging market, and leverage their complimentary strengths to satisfy the needs of those original equipment manufacturers developing home convergence products. The companies plan on releasing the Metro Link Metro Media tool chain as a fully integrated module in the Lineo Embedix Target Wizard, part of their Software Development Kit, by August.
