Multi-OS real-time framework runs VxWorks with Linux

Half Moon Bay, CA — (press release excerpt) — OnCore Systems Corporation today announced plans to support the use of VxWorks applications in a mixed OS environment that can include Linux, pSOS, POSIX, and other OS platforms. Developers will be able to combine VxWorks and Linux applications on a single processor while maintaining, and possibly improving, real-time performance.

The OnCore OS places all applications in Memory Management Unit (MMU) protected virtual memory environments. This enables mixing trusted software from legacy environments with untrusted new code from a variety of sources without fear of disrupting critical applications. In addition, OnCore's technologies enable mixed applications to cleanly pass data between protected partitions in a fast, efficient manner.

“This is not an API conversion kit for converting working VxWorks code into 'My Favorite API'”, states Chip Downing, President and CEO of OnCore Systems. “This is the recognition that the fastest way to get a product to market is to combine the best software available, without change, into an integrated system.”

An OnCore OS Block Diagram and details of the VxWorks support strategy is available online.
