O'Reilly is planning a European version of its Open Source Convention (OSCON), and has issued a call for speaker proposals, to close May 23. The inaugural EuroOSCON is themed “The Future is Open,” and set for October, 17-20 in Amsterdam. Topics include Linux, Java, PHP, Python, Perl, databases, and more.

According to Program Chair Nathan Torkington, EuroOSCON is seeking proposals that focus on sharing best practices, and helping corporations, government agencies, and non-profits to seamlessly integrate the best and newest open source technology. Proposals for sessions (45 or 90 minutes long) and tutorials (three hours or six hours long) should be deeply technical, either focusing on code or giving practical architectural advice. Marketing presentations are not accepted.

Tracks and topics include:

• Linux, other open source operating systems, and applications
• Java
• PHP
• Python
• Perl
• Databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Ingres, MaxDB, and SQLite
• Security
• Emerging Topics: AJAX, SOA, Wireless, mobile, p2p, visualization, patents, licenses, business models, sociology, privacy, and more
