MontaVista Software announced support for AMD's Driver Information Reference Design Kit (RDK) based on the AMD Alchemy Au1500 system-on-chip processor. The kit targets automotive telematics, infotainment, and navigation systems applications.

The AMD “Alchemy Solutions Driver Information RDK” includes a compact (6 x 4 x 1.25 in.) reference board that includes SDRAM and Flash memory along with support for two 10/100 Ethernet ports, dual serial, USB, control area network (CAN), and media-oriented system transport (MOST) buses for automotive networks, AC-97 Codec including stereo audio in and out, 2D and 3D graphics, analog and digital video playback, a CompactFlash slot, and expansion connectors for a complete car audio sub-system.

According to AMD, the Alchemy Au1500 processor, on which the reference design is based, is a MIPS32 technology-based system-on-chip processor that is available at speeds up to 500MHz with power dissipations as low as 400 mW (at 333 MHz). On-chip functions include a PCI bus controller, GPIO, two 10/100 Ethernet controllers, USB Device and Host controllers, two UARTS, an AC-97 controller, and a PCMCIA controller.

MontaVista's support for the AMD Driver Information RDK will be available in the third quarter of this year.
