Win an Axis ETRAX developer board — it’s easy!

Oct 11, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Want to win a free development board with the Axis ETRAX system-on-chip and a full port of embedded Linux? Axis has announced a contest which will award five of their “developer boards” to “the five best, most creative, weirdest, or coolest [project] suggestions”. By the way, be sure to read the Contest FAQ, below — it's rather entertaining ;)

Here is some background information about about the Axis ETRAX system-on-chip:

Here's what Axis says about their contest . . .

You now have the chance to win a developer board of your own. All you have to do is tell us what you want to do (or what you could do for that matter) with the developer board. The five best, most creative, weirdest, or coolest suggestions will receive a developer board free of charge.

How to enter

Write down your application and send your suggestion to [email protected] with Axis Developer Board contest as the subject. We must have received your suggested application before the end of October for your entry to be valid.

Rules

Let's keep this as simple as our technology: you send us your application suggestion and we will decide on who the winners are.

Contest FAQ

Q: Can I send multiple entries?
A: Yes you can. You will only be able to win one developer board, though.

Q: Why should I send in multiple entries if I only can win one board?
A: Because it might be a good way to increase your chances of winning.

Q: Who decides who the winners should be?
A: Axis decides.

Q: What if I send in the same application as someone else – who will be the winner?
A: Axis decides – possibly by throwing a dice.

Q: How come Axis gets to decide so much?
A: It's our contest.

Q: Where will the results be published?
A: The winning applications will be published on the developer.axis.com site.

Q: When will the results be published?
A: Sometime during the first half of November, 2000.

Q: I work for uncool company X which disapproves of me entering silly contests. I really want to enter the contest, but I do not want my employer to find out.
A: If you win, we will contact you to get your consent before publishing your name. In order to win you must allow us to publish the application, not your name. Btw, you really should work for a different company. Send us your resume and we'll see what we can do.

Q: I work for this really cool company, Axis. Am I allowed to participate?
A: No.

Q: When I win the contest, do I need to pay for shipping?
A: No, we'll pay for that.

Q: When I win the contest, do I need to pay for local taxes?
A: Unfortunately, if that is applicable in your country.

Q: What about intellectual properties? Will Axis steal my idea?
A: Axis will not claim any rights, we will just publish the winning applications. If you think you've got a killer application that will make you rich, don't enter the contest. Instead, buy a developerboard and get to work.

Q: I hate spam. Will you use my e-mail address to send me stuff I don't want?
A: We hate spam as much as the next guy. Your e-mail address will only be used if we need additional information from you regarding your contest entry, or if you are one of the winners and we need to know where to ship the developer board you just won.

Q: I have a question that is not covered in this FAQ, who should I ask?
A: Send an email to [email protected].
