Axis to proactively develop Bluetooth standards

Axis Communications, a pioneer in embedding Linux in smart appliances and one of 37 founding members of the BlueTooth Special Interest Group, announced that it has joined three Bluetooth technical working groups and intends to be highly proactive in efforts to advance the development of emerging Bluetooth standards. RTAI releases real-time Linux add-on for kernel 2.4.xx

A preliminary version of the RTAI real-time extension for Linux is now available for testing with Linux kernel 2.4.xx. Paolo Mantegazza, RTAI project leader, says the new release “is a relatively advanced porting of RTAI to the approaching Linux [kernel] 2.4.xx, both for [Intel-x86] and PowerPC architectures”. An embedded Linux tsunami washed ashore yesterday in Tokyo. A handful of the world's largest electronics manufacturers, including Fujitsu, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, NEC, and Toshiba, added their weight to the launch of a vendor-neutral Japanese embedded Linux organization. Lineo announces BusyBox v0.46

Lineo has announced the release of version 0.46 of BusyBox, the popular “swiss army knife” utility suite for embedded Linux systems. The update fixes several bugs, provides improved portability kernel versions (2.0, 2.2, and 2.4), sports a completely reworked 'grep' and 'sed', and provides several other new features of value to emdedded system designers. MontaVista takes Hard Hat to Japan

MontaVista today established a base of operations in Tokyo, Japan, and named Hitoshi Arima to serve as General Manager of the new MontaVista Japan operation. Arima is no stranger to the real-time operating system (RTOS) market, having recently served as Managing Director of Japan Operations for Software Development Systems (SDSI), which was acquired by Integrated Systems in 1999. Japanese companies form their own embedded Linux consortium?

A group of companies in Japan has launched a Japanese embedded Linux organization, according to a report from Reuters/CNNFN.
