3.5-inch Via Eden SBC runs Linux

BCM Advanced Research has released an SBC (single-board computer) in a 3.5-inch format with support for embedded Linux. The EBC3266 is a scalable platform for all VIA Eden processors, from 400MHz to 1.0GHz. It targets medical, POS, kiosk, and digital multimedia applications, according to the company.

The board uses the Via CLE266 chipset featuring MPEG 2 hardware video acceleration for enhanced multimedia applications, according to BCM. The integrated 2D/3D graphics supports 8X AGP performance with outputs for both LVDS LCD and CRT. The AC '97 audio codec supports full duplex stereo.

BCM lists the following key features and specifications for the EBC3266:

  • Processor — Via Eden up to 1 GHz
  • Memory — 200-pin SO-DIMM socket supports 64 to 512 MB DDR memory modules
  • Graphics:
    • VIA ProSavage VT8623 North Bridge provides 2D/3D graphic accelerator
    • MPEG-2 hardware acceleration
    • Up to 48 bits of LVDS for LCDs
    • DB-15 VGA connector supports up to 1400×1280 with 32-bit color
  • Storage options:
    • One IDE channel for up to two IDE devices
    • Dual S-ATA supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1
    • CompactFlash socket
  • I/O ports:
    • Dual Ethernet:
      • Port 1 — Via VT6103 PHY
      • Port 2 — Intel 82551 (10/100) or 82540 (GB, optional)
    • 2 serial ports
    • 1 Parallel port
    • 1 PS/2 keyboard/mouse port
    • 4 USB 2.0 ports
    • AC '97 audio codec; line in/out, mic in, CD-audio in
  • Expansion — PC/104-Plus connector
