Article: Calling all Embedded Linux companies

Mar 6, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Dear Embedded Linux Community Partner,

Independent market analysts predict that 2002 is a breakout year for embedded Linux. This forecast translates into two important realities for the embedded Linux community:

  1. A narrow window of opportunity has opened for us to ride this wave of excitement — we need to seize it NOW!

  2. The more successful Linux becomes, the more it will be attacked.
One of the most important tasks we can embark on together to exploit this opportunity is to construct a platform specification that ensures embedded Linux will be widely adopted and grow into a highly profitable business.

The ELC Board has passed an Intellectual Property Agreement that paves the way for this embedded Linux standards work to begin at our organization meeting in San Francisco on March 12, 2002 (which will be held in conjunction with the Embedded Systems Conference 2002). We encourage your company to send delegates. The press and analyst community will be there in force, so we want to make sure this event is a rousing success. You don't need to be an ELC member to participate.

Please RSVP now!.

Why an Embedded Linux Specification?

  • Ensures that embedded software and middleware will function on any compliant embedded system

  • Grows the ecosystem and increases the robustness of Linux through wide availability of third-party software

  • Provides a strong selling point versus proprietary solutions by addressing key consumer concerns such as reuse over time and
    interoperability

  • Eliminates developer fear of the moving specification target

  • Enhances traceability of systems problems that arise during testing

  • Reinforces each organization's business investment in embedded Linux technology
Join us on March 12 to help build the traction necessary to make the analysts' predictions become a reality. To learn more, please visit the ELC website.
