Mobile game tools vendor Fathammer has released an update to its suite of tools and APIs, which enable games written on Windows to be deployed on embedded Linux and other platforms. Version 2.0 of X-Forge better supports current and future device capabilities, including hardware 3D acceleration, Fathammer says.

X-Forge now supports hardware 3D acceration through OpenGL ES, a royalty-free open standard for advanced 2D and 3D graphics in embedded systems including mobile and handheld devices.

According to Fathammer, X-Forge is optimized for first person shooters, racing, and action-adventure games, but supports other genres as well. It includes a multi-platform cross development tool, as well as a 3D Game Engine.

X-Forge also supports multi-channel audio; 2D and 3D graphics; 3D scene graphing; collision checking; physics simulation; networking with both Bluetooth and IP based networks such as GPRS, WCDMA and WLAN — including cross platform; content compression and encryption; and device event handling.

Fathammer claims X-Forge is “the premier mobile game development toolkit used globally by over a hundred professional game developers and publishers.” X-Forge powered games reportedly include Nokia N-Gage, Tapwave Zodiac, and the forthcoming Gametrac.

“Ninai Games [used X-Forge to] enhanced our mobile game Super Drop Mania with cool 3D effects while also coming to market faster on more devices,” said Mikko Miettinen, CEO.
