Taiwanese embedded software firm EzHomeTech is shipping a Linux implementation for inexpensive consumer-electronic devices based on Sigma Designs system-on-chip (SoC) processors. AMD announced the latest processor in its Alchemy embedded processor family today, the Au1550 “security network processor.” AMD says the Au1550 is suitable for use in Linux-based networking and remote access devices such as gateways, network attached storage (NAS) units, wireless access points, and VoIP applications. Radvision has added 3G and WiFi features to its line of toolkits for broadband mobile wireless application development that support Linux, among other OSes. Radvision's “Ensemble” toolkits now support “all the main application protocols needed for the delivery of one-way, bidirectional, and multipoint data and multimedia content over a broadband mobile network,” the company claims. Intel recently outlined plans to drive the development of a complete, standards-based, common platform for ultra wideband (UWB) wireless technology.
