Nano smashes Atom, reviewers say

Via's new Nano processor outperforms Intel's Atom by about 20 percent, according to articles published this week by three hardware enthusiast websites. But, while both CPUs draw approximately the same power when idling, the Nano drinks a lot more juice when loaded, the reviewers added. (more…)

Linux MID stack to debut at IDF

[Updated Nov. 26] — Intel's Dirk Hohndel, director of Linux and open-source strategy, will formally announce Moblin 2.0 at the Intel Developer Forum, set for Aug. 19-21 in San Francisco. The event will also feature “over 170 hours” of technical training on MIDs, nettops, netbooks, embedded computing, and consumer electronics, Intel says. (more…)

Moblin switching from Ubuntu to Fedora

Intel has switched from Ubuntu to Fedora Linux for release 2.0 of its MID-targeted Moblin open source stack, according to a variety of sources. Intel also indicated Moblin 2.0 would be unveiled on August 19th, say multiple sources. (more…)

Flash-based RDBMS gains fault tolerance

Enea has added fault-tolerance to its Linux-compatible lightweight SQL RDBMS, which originally targeted devices like phones and set-top boxes. Now apparently aimed at flash-based server applications, Polyhedra FlashLite has gained support for redundancy, failover, and reconnection, as well as “hot upgrades” and new operating systems. (more…)
