Freescale has announced four new PowerPC SoCs (system-on-chips) expected to sample in Q2, 2005. Each will use 90nm process technology said to decrease power consumption at higher clock rates. The four new PowerQUICC III chips will target enterprise networking, telecom transmission and switching, 3G wireless infrastructure, storage, and high-end imaging. (more…)

Freescale Semiconductor has outlined plans for a dual-core, low-power PowerPC-based SoC (system-on-chip), but has not yet committed to sample or ship dates. The MPC8641D will be built using 90nm SOI (silicon-on-insulator) technology, and will feature dual e600 PowerPC cores. It will target networking, telecom, military, storage, and pervasive computing applications. (more…)

Global DSL (digital subscriber line) customers increased almost 40 percent in the last twelve months, making DSL the most popular broadband technology worldwide, according to the DSL Forum, an industry consortium of DSL service and equipment providers. ABI Research has released a report calling the ZigBee market a “sleeping giant,” and forecasting the deployment of 80 million ZigBee devices by the end of 2006. ZigBee is billed as a low-cost, low-power, low-data-rate wireless networking standard designed for monitoring and control applications in both industrial and home markets. (more…)
