The Siemens Speedstream 8xxx set-top box for home entertainment, V2.0, is an all-in-one Linux-based device providing a range of home gateway and entertainment functions. Win Enterprises has introduced a series of application-oriented kits intended to help companies bring embedded products to market quickly and cost-effectively. Each kit targets specific markets, is based on an x86 processor, and is offered with support for Linux, the company says.
NTT DoCoMo and its regional subsidiaries are now offering business subscribers a dual-network 3G/VoIP handset that works as a 3G mobile phone, VoIP (voice-over-IP) terminal, or both simultaneously. The N900iL is based on a Linux-based 3G mobile phone software platform developed jointly by NEC and Panasonic.
MontaVista says it supplied the embedded Linux operating system for a 3G mobile phone software platform jointly developed by NEC and Panasonic. The platform has already appeared in one phone shipping in Japan, with two more Japanese phones expected soon. The platform will be marketed globally.
