[Updated Jun. 29, 2005] — IBM, Sony, and Toshiba have ported Linux to the Cell processor, and hope to merge their patches into the next major Linux kernel release, 2.6.13. An open source telephony application server project has released its second major version to developers. Bayonne 2 features a simpler driver model, support for wired and protocol-stack-based drivers, and both an interface library and voice application server. Cavium has announced that its Linux-friendly line of security processors is available with microcode and SDKs supporting WiMAX access point and CPE (customer premises equipment) development.
