Google has enhanced its free “Gmail” service with two new interface options for mobile phone users. A new “m.gmail.com” site features a greatly simplified interface for phones with HTML browsers, while a Java download enables Gmail account access from any Web- and Java-enabled device, the company says. PC Tools will add a Linux-based boot image to its security auditing software for Windows PCs. The company says that when run under Linux, Spyware Doctor can detect and remove “persistent spyware such as rootkits and keyloggers that launch and hide themselves in the OS when Windows is booted.” (more…)

Red Hat says 29 ISVs (independent software vendors) have joined its Telecommunications Partner Program during the last six months. Wind River has completed an “evaluation port” of its Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) stack to Sun's UltraSPARC T1, and plans to offer the industry's first commercial CGL support for the chip, by mid-2007.
