Shutting down idle PCs with Linux

This simple project describes building a low-powered embedded Linux system to find and shut down idling Linux and Windows PCs left on by careless, energy-wasting users. Suitable for deployment on a Linksys WRT54G or NSLU2, it leverages the open source Argus network monitoring tool, along with custom perl scripts. (more…)

IPTV set-top runs Linux

NeuLion is shipping a Linux-based IPTV set-top box (STB) as a complement to its IPTV encoding and streaming platform. Based on a Freescale Coldfire CPU and an Analog Devices Blackfin DSP (digital signal processor), the NeuLion IPTV STB provides H.264 decoding at 30fps, says NeuLion. (more…)

[Updated] — A Chinese vendor of microprocessors and computer systems is readying a high-efficiency “netbook” with a TDP of just 12 Watts. Moblin Linux gathers momentum

Microkernel boasts more “robust” SDK

Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs) has upgraded its microkernel operating system (OS) and Linux-friendly embedded virtual machine environment, adding an improved, Linux-compatible software development kit (SDK). Wind River touts Android win, tools
