ETX module has Atom, SATA ports

Diamond Systems announced an ETX 3.0-compliant COM (computer on module) offering two SATA interfaces and an Intel Atom N270 CPU. The “ETX-N270” (left) accepts 2GB of RAM, has a 10/100 Ethernet port, offers CRT, LVDS, or TV video output, and runs Linux 2.6, the company says. (more…)
Adobe's “full desktop” Flash Player 10 for smartphones, including Linux-based Android and Palm Pre models, will offer support for multi-touch and accelerometer features, says an industry report. Flash Player 10 should be available in beta by the end of the year, says the story.
Amid signs that sales of Intel Atom-based MIDs are suffering, Optima announced a mobile Internet device that runs Maemo Linux on an ARM/XScale processor. The Optima OP5-E uses an 806MHz Marvell PXA320 processor, and offers a 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
Intel has announced new SSDs (solid-state disks) it says are faster and cheaper than earlier versions. Intended for netbooks, notebooks, and embedded devices, the X25-M and X18-M move to a 34-nanometer (nm) manufacturing process and come in 80GB or 160GB capacities, the company says.
Vietnamese Linux technology firm Hacao has released a netbook and a new bilingual (English/Vietnamese) release of its Hacao Linux 2009 CE distro. The Hacao Netbook is a rebranded version of MSI's Intel Atom-based Wind, featuring a 10-inch screen and 160GB of storage.
Fujitsu is shipping a fanless, Linux-compatible thin client touted for its low power consumption. The Fujitsu Futro S100 is equipped with a 500MHz Via Eden ULV processor, offers a 512MB internal flash drive, and consumes less than 11 Watts under full load, claims Fujitsu.
Cavium Networks is sampling four content-inspection coprocessors for network security devices. The Nitrox DPI CN17XX Layer 7 coprocessors provide 4Gpbs to 20Gbps of deterministic performance with low latency, support unlimited pattern rule-sets and flows, and ship with a Linux-ready hardware/software kit, says Cavium.
Diamond Systems is shipping a compact embedded computer that fits within the ETX (4.5 x 3.7 inches) footprint and offers PC/104-Plus expansion. Available with Intel's Atom N270 or Core Duo CPUs, the “Pluto” offers a CompactFlash slot, dual Ethernet ports, and four serial ports, says Diamond.
Aaeon has introduced an Intel Atom-based controller intended for in-vehicle usage. The Linux-ready AEC-6831 includes two gigabit Ethernet ports, VGA and DVI-I video outputs, CompactFlash storage, and available redundant power supplies, according to the company.
Eurotech announced a fanless box computer that uses a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. The Bx-400F-N270 includes dual gigabit Ethernet ports, a 2.5-inch hard disk drive and dual CompactFlash slots, plus both PCI and Mini PCI Express expansion slots, the company says.
O'Reilly has published a book about Android programming. Android Application Development by Rick Rogers, John Lombardo, Zigurd Mednieks, and Blake Meike covers both the operating system and SDK, and provides a working example that demonstrates Android architectural features and APIs, says the publisher.
