First U.S. GPL lawsuit filed

For the first time in the U.S., a company and software vendor, Monsoon Multimedia, is being taken to court for a GPL violation. Previously, alleged GPL violations have all been settled by letters from the FSF (Free Software Foundation) or other open-source organizations, pointing out the violation. (more…)

AMD adds single-core Athlons to embedded portfolio

New group mulls tiny computer module specs

A new standards group focused on small format board-level embedded computers was unveiled today at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston. Low-power EBX SBC supports SPX expansion

Versalogic has introduced an EBX format single-board computer (SBC) based on a 1.2 GHz Via Eden processor. Compatible with embedded Linux, the Sidewinder features modular PC/104-Plus expansion, but adds Versalogic's proprietary SPX-based serial expansion format to the mix, according to the company. Broadcom aims advanced comm chips at Linux handsets

Communications chip giant Broadcom has joined the LiMo (Linux Mobile) Foundation, an industry group building a shared Linux stack for mobile phones. The company said it hopes to work with the Foundation to reduce Linux's power requirements, size, and cost, in order to “achieve widespread adoption of Linux-based handsets.” (more…)

Linux device software provider supports MIDs/UMPCs

Movial is touting its support for MIDs (mobile Internet devices) and UMPCs (ultra-mobile PCs) at the Intel Developer Forum in Santa Clara this week. Software test tools boast Boolean satisfiability

Software test tools vendor Coverity claims to be shipping the first software debugger based on Boolean satisfiability. Long-used to test IC designs before sending them to the foundry, Boolean satisfiability can come much closer to testing every possible code execution path than the dynamic debuggers popular in software testing today, Coverity claims.
