Via is shipping a power-efficient mini-ITX SBC (single-board computer) targeting digital media appliances. The Epia CN, based on a 1GHz-1.3GHz C7 processor and Via's newest desktop chipset, typically consumes 16 Watts, and features a simplified onboard peripheral and I/O set compared to previous C7-based mini-ITX boards. Conexant is sampling an ARM-based SoC (system-on-chip) for DSL gateways, bridges, and routers supporting “triple-play” (voice, video, and data) Internet services. The low-cost CX9461x SoC integrates ADSL2+, WiFi, and VoIP interfaces, and is available now in a hardware reference design said to support “industry-standard operating systems, including Linux.”

Freescale's ARM11-based i.MX31 mobile applications processor has gained commercial Linux support through TimeSys's subscription-based Web service offering for embedded Linux developers. The i.MX31 LinuxLink was announced by Freescale Semiconductor Japan and long-time TimeSys ASSP (authorized sales/support partner) Nissin Systems, at the Embedded Technology West trade show in Osaka, May 10-11.
