Linux/Intel costs less than Unix/RISC, says IDC

Research from IDC indicates a 45-80 percent lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for Linux on the Intel architecture over RISC/Unix environments. MontaVista tips its (hard) hat [SD Times]

Correa reports that MontaVista Software Inc. is preparing to unveil “Version 2.1 of what had been called Hard Hat Linux.” According to Correa, the key changes (in addition to the product getting a new name) will be the incorporation of Linux kernel 2.4.17 (including the EXT3 filesystem) and a change in IDE from Code Crusader to KDevelop. MontaVista Secures Heady Investment [LinuxGram]
