Sunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software today announced the availability of VisualAge Micro Edition (VAME) for Hard Hat Linux by MontaVista. VAME is an integrated development environment with runtime components incorporating IBM's latest embedded Java technology, the J9 Virtual Machine. VisualAge Micro Edition provides developers of embedded applications with a complete set of tools for the creation, testing and deployment of embedded Java applications. In this first release, MontaVista has observed a significant performance improvement over other Virtual Machines tested on Hard Hat Linux.

This tool-kit offers embedded applications developers all the benefits of Java technology in a high performing, reliable and robust environment. The combination of the IBM Virtual Machine and Hard Hat Linux achieves this goal, providing substantially more in terms of portability, developer productivity and application performance. MontaVista and IBM have each taken a leadership position in providing their products across an extensive array of processors and boards to ensure that the Java applications can be deployed across the widest variety of target platforms.
