New York; LinuxWorld — (press release excerpt) — DevelopOnline Corporation announced today that developers using STMicroelectronics' STPC platform online can soon take advantage of the Lineo Embedix operating system. More than 200 development projects have been registered for the STPC platform in the first quarter of operation at DevelopOnline's product development acceleration site for Linux developers. Lineo's Embedix operating system will be available at DevelopOnline later in first quarter 2001.

The STPC Consumer platform available at DevelopOnline is one member of a family of x86 PC-compatible System-on-Chip (SoC) devices offered by STMicroelectronics. The STPC platform, based on the x86 architecture, offers an extremely high integration level. Features include a comprehensive array of standard functions, including ISA and PCI controllers, an IDE port, and an SDRAM memory controller. It also incorporates high-performance graphics and video functions. In addition to their very high integration levels, the low cost of the STPC devices makes them very attractive and cost-effective for today's Internet appliances that cannot be priced cost-effectively if based on very expensive microprocessors.

Alan Steinberg, DevelopOnline president and CEO, said, “The STPC has proven to be our most popular platform thus far, so we feel the more solution options we can offer for the platform, the happier the development community will be. We're very pleased to have Lineo supporting STMicroelectronics' platform.”
