Qtopia 1.7 gains Mac OS X desktop support

Sep 17, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Trolltech today announced the release of Qtopia Desktop 1.7.0 for Mac OS X, rounding out the Linux and Windows desktop platforms initially supported with the Aug. 6 release of Qtopia 1.7. The added support will allow users to enter data on their Mac, synchronize that data with most any embedded device running Qtopia (version 1.5 and up), install applications to the embedded device, and transfer documents to Qtopia, according to Trolltech.

Qtopia Desktop can sync with a Qtopia device over a network connection, or by USB using a third-party USB driver. Additionally, developers can extend Qtopia Desktop's import and synchronization functionality by writing plugins for third-party programs.

Qtopia Desktop 1.7.0 for MacOS X can be downloaded now. Experimental (beta) USB drivers for Mac OS X are also available from a third party. More information about

Note: Qtopia Desktop 1.7.0 will not synchronize with any Sharp Zaurus running ROM image 3.1 or newer.
