Qtopia Phone “best embedded solution” at LinuxWorld

Trolltech's Qtopia Phone took the honors, edging out Cloudscape, an embedded Java database recently target=”new”>contributed to the Mozilla Project by IBM.
Trolltech announced Qtopia Phone Edition (QPE) in October of 2003, subsequently launching it in late May of this year. QPE is a complete graphics framework, application suite, and user interface package for mobile phones based on embedded Linux.
Criteria for the Expo's Product Excellence Awards included value, productivity, flexibility, price/performance, and quality and availability of code, according to Trolltech.
CEO Haavard Nord said, “Mobile devices are one of the next big frontiers for Linux, and we are seeing strong demand for Qtopia Phone.”
The overall winner for “best open source software” went to the Mozilla Foundation for the Firefox browser. Additional award recipients are listed here.
