First PowerPC Linux SMP on VME and CompactPCI

Synergy Microsystems has announced its support for Linux with symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) on all of its PowerPC-based multiprocessor boards. The company claims that this represents the first Linux PowerPC release that supports SMP on VME and CompactPCI based CPU boards. (more…)

HP and Intel offering free IA-64 Linux developer’s kit

Hewlett-Packard Company and Intel Corporation have released a free IA-64 developer's kit that enables the Linux community to develop, test, debug and run IA-64 applications for the upcoming Intel Itanium processor. Free Embedded Java class library released under GPL

JEMIni includes a set of foundation libraries equivalent to those found in commercial Java distributions. Lucent spinoff Vita Nuova releases Inferno OS source
