Free Standards Group releases LSB version 1.0

The Free Standards Group released version 1.0 of the Linux Standard Base specification last week. The goal of the Linux Standard Base (LSB) is to develop and promote a set of standards that will increase compatibility among Linux distributions and enable software applications to run on any compliant Linux system. SuSE announces “Firewall on a CD”

Borehamwood, UK — (press release excerpt) — SuSE Linux released a “Firewall on a CD”, a format that is more secure and easier to install and maintain. The “SuSE Linux Firewall on CD”, due to be presented at LinuxTage Expo in Stuttgart this week, was designed as an application level gateway and combines the high security standards of a hardware solution with the flexibility of a software firewall. SBC maker RadiSys acquires RTOS vendor Microware

Hillsboro, OR — (press release excerpt) — RadiSys Corporation and Microware Systems Corporation today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which RadiSys, through a wholly owned subsidiary, will acquire Microware for $0.68 per share in an all-cash tender offer valued at approximately $13.1 million.
