XScale-based reference platform extends power management

Sharp announces availability of Bluestreak SoC, 3rd-party support

Sharp announced that its 200 MHz ARM922T-based 32-bit system-on-chip processor is now generally available. The Bluestreak processors offer high performance with low power consumption, and target mobile/multimedia, home/office automation, and industrial applications, Sharp said. (more…)

Matchbox 0.5 Released

The open source “Matchbox” project announced a new release of the Matchbox X11 small footprint window manager and associated applications. Matchbox is designed specifically for resource-constrained X11-enabled devices such as handheld computers, PDA's, set-top boxes, and consumer devices where display size, storage, CPU bandwidth, and input mechanisms are limited, the group said. LynuxWorks revs embedded development tools

PowerPC, Linux converge in media gateway reference design

Vytek announced a Linux-based reference platform for developing what it calls “media gateways” — devices that combine the functionality of a TV set-top box and an Ethernet gateway. Arium unveils JTAG console support for I/O-challenged Linux targets

American Arium announced JTAG-based console and debug support for Linux-based embedded systems lacking serial or LAN connectivity. Arium's SourcePoint debugger provides ANSI terminal functionality using “debug communications channel” (DCC) commands over the target's JTAG port — a mechanism that works “straight from system reset,” the company said. USB OTG driver for dual-role controller features Linux-like API

Mentor Graphics Corp. announced a USB software stack with a “Linux-like API” for its dual-role USB On-the-Go (OTG) controllers. The controllers, which are offered as hardware intellectual property (IP) for integration into custom chip designs, are said to support both the “USB host” and “USB function” capabilities of the USB OTG spec, including the ability to swap those roles dynamically.
