Virtual device tool vendor gains graphical test manager, embedded Linux partner

DoubleWide Software has added a graphical test configuration tool to its platform virtualization technology for embedded Linux development. The company has also announced a partnership with MontaVista to promote both companies' embedded development solutions. Both announcements came at this week's Embedded Systems Conference (ESC). LynuxWorks demo’s Eclipse-based, Studio.NET IDEs for kernel 2.6

Boot loader launches Linux from DR-DOS

Devicelogics is shipping a DR-DOS based Linux loader that loads the Linux kernel while preserving DR-DOS in memory so that, upon Linux session completion, the system returns to DR-DOS. “DRLX” targets companies migrating embedded systems from DOS to Linux, as well as single-board computer OEMs wishing to simplify Linux installation. Residential gateway reference platform runs embedded Linux

Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC) will ship in Q2 a platform for residential home gateway applications running embedded Linux. Linux 2.6 brings embedded development into the mainstream

Deshpande first outlines OS performance characteristics required for embedded use, and then shows how new kernel features and capabilities deliver most required features, while still leaving a few areas where traditional RTOSes remain unthreatened. New TI OMAP chip targets handheld terminals, runs embedded Linux

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) announced its latest “OMAP” processor, a multi-core ARM + DSP. TI says the OMAP5912 processor is optimized for portable data terminal (PDT) applications requiring high-performance signal processing capabilities as well as high-level application support via multiple operating systems. ARM embedded Linux ports target consumer device apps

MontaVista says it is porting its Linux Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) to a pair of ARM cores targeting networking, consumer, and automotive infotainment applications. The new CEE port will ship in Q3 or Q4 for the ARM1136J-S and ARM1136JF-S microprocessor cores, on an ARM11 microarchitecture development platform and evaluation board. (more…)

ARMv6 support added to Linux 2.6, GCC

Embedded RISC core vendor ARM says Linux 2.6 and the GNU tools now support the ARMv6 Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). ARMv6 patches were accepted from ARM kernel legend Russell King into the 2.6.0-test4 release, and ARM has worked to bring ARMv6 support to the GNU GCC tool chain as well. (more…)

MontaVista tool creates, certifies embedded Linux BSPs

MontaVista is launching an initiative to help hardware vendors create and “self-certify” their own board support packages (BSPs) for MontaVista's embedded Linux distributions. Embedded Linux implementation targets custom SoCs

LynuxWorks will demonstrate a version of its BlueCat Linux running on LSI Logic's RapidChip “Platform ASIC” at the Embedded Systems Conference next week in San Francisco.
