Wind River adds support for PowerQUICC II Linux app debugging

Wind River has added support for Linux application development to its VisionClick debugger for PowerQUICC II embedded processors. VisionClick can now debug applications written for Linux, regardless of kernel version or distributor, or for Wind River's VxWorks RTOS. VisionClick's open API also supports in-house proprietary operating systems, Wind River says. (more…)

No. 2 telecom RTOS vendor strolls down Tux lane

Tiny, embeddable Web server features optional database integration

McObject has announced the final beta release of an embeddable web server for Linux devices. eXtremeWS features a footprint under 30KB, low CPU consumption, support for devices without filesystems, and optional integration with McObject's eXtremeDB in-memory database. New MontaVista investors raise total funding to $70M+

Four companies have invested a combined $7M in the latest round of financing for embedded Linux company MontaVista Software. Siemens Venture Capital, Samsung Ventures America, Infineon Ventures, and China Development Industrial Bank represent new investors for the privately held company, which has raised over $72M since forming in 1999. Global embedded computer board market tops $3 billion

According to a recent report by Venture Development Corp. (VDC) titled The Merchant Computer Boards for Embedded/Real Time Applications Market Intelligence Program 2002/2003, the global market for embedded merchant computer boards reached $3.3 billion in 2003 and is expected to reach $4.3 billion by the year 2006, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 6.4%. New kernel aims to bring Linux-like OS to 8-bit MCUs

A tiny new “Linux-like” operating system has been released under the GPL, according to a post in the LinuxDevices.com reader forum. LinLike8 aims to bring a Linux-like kernel to 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs). Version 00.01.00 supports a Cypress Microsystems programmable system-on-chip (PSoC), according to its author, and can be downloaded now. (more…)

Lead-free motherboard targets embedded, industrial use

Industrial automation specialist Yamashita is shipping a completely lead-free motherboard that it says complies with new green-computing directives from the European Union. The company built the micro-ATX AS-1210 board using lead-free chips and manufacturing processes supplied and developed by VIA. (more…)

Motorola licenses multi-format browser for smartphones

Picsel Technologies has announced that its Picsel Browser was licensed for use in forthcoming and currently shipping Motorola smartphones, including those based on embedded Linux. AMD joins OSDL

Microprocessor vendor AMD has joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), and will serve on the Carrier Grade and Data Center Linux working groups. AMD pioneered 64-bit x86 computing, and supplies a number of small processors popular in embedded Linux devices. (more…)
