Wind River has added support for Linux application development to its VisionClick debugger for PowerQUICC II embedded processors. VisionClick can now debug applications written for Linux, regardless of kernel version or distributor, or for Wind River's VxWorks RTOS. VisionClick's open API also supports in-house proprietary operating systems, Wind River says.

VisionClick features a graphical drag-and-drop interface. It does not require kernel instrumentation, supports hardware breakpoints and built-in diagnostics, includes extensive Flash memory programming support, and supports high-speed downloading and debugging, Wind River says.

VisionClick can be used in conjunction with Wind River Workbench, a forthcoming Eclipse-based IDE (integrated development environment) formerly known as Wind Power 2.0 that is currently beta testing. Used with Workbench, VisionClick will support efficient cross-project, cross-platform development and workgroup collaboration, according to Wind River.

Chief Marketing Officer Dave Fraser said, “With the latest version of VisionClick and the upcoming version of Wind River Workbench, the company is making good on its commitment to provide truly interoperable tools to both VxWorks and Linux-based PowerQUICC devices.”
