Device Profile: Roland Edirol RG-100 real-time multimedia presenter

[Updated Jul. 7, 2004] — Roland used embedded Linux to power a real-time graphics presenter to launch in August. The Edirol RG-100 creates 3D graphics and presents high-resolution images for indoor and outdoor signs and advertisements on large-scale plasma or projected displays at retail shops, amusement parks, and commercial showrooms. MontaVista to market tools for application developers

MontaVista will in August begin selling inexpensive subsets of its Linux toolsets aimed at the application developers within embedded Linux development teams. The “Application Development Kits” (ADKs) will comprise an Eclipse based IDE along with the needed libraries and headers to build applications that run on systems running MontaVista Linux. (more…)

Mono goes mano-a-mano with .Net

Novell today launched Mono 1.0, an open source development platform that aims to simplify Linux- and cross-platform application programming. Novell calls Mono “extremely usable” and “commercial-grade,” and hopes the technology will help companies that are moving to Linux build their applications more easily. (more…)

Cool portable media player reference design — but where’s the Linux?

An intriguing looking reference board from Freescale (formerly Motorola Semiconductor) just begs for a Linux port. The “Jazz” board is based on a Freescale i.MX21 system-on-chip with an ARM926EJ-S core. It targets portable multimedia player designs. (more…)

MontaVista pats CELF on back

MontaVista today issued a statement of strong endorsement for the 1.0 Specification and Reference Implementation formally announced yesterday by the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF). CELF's Linux implementation contains much technology developed and/or adopted by MontaVista for use in its Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) product, the company claims. (more…)
