XScale dev kit supports commercial embedded Linux

Vibren says its development kit for Intel XScale-based devices now supports a commercial embedded Linux distribution from LynuxWorks. The Accelent DevkitIDP includes a development board and LCD module, and supports LynuxWorks BlueCat Embedded Linux. It targets mobile and other devices based on Intel's PXA255 processor. (more…)

CA joins Eclipse.org, will lead monitoring tools project

Computer Associates (CA) has joined the Eclipse Foundation and will lead the Monitoring Tools Project, a sub-project of the Test and Performance Tools Project (TPTP). The TPTP is used to test standalone and distributed embedded Linux and enterprise Linux systems, CA says. CA sells change management software compatible with Eclipse. (more…)

Dev kit aims to unify open source IPMI implementations

Espial has enhanced its Java-based embedded browser and GUI toolkit for STBs (set-top boxes) and mobile phones with right-to-left (RTL) text rendering capabilities. Linux thin client management suite revised

Symbio has revised its administrative software for diskless clients running LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) software. The Symbiont Management Suite 4 works with COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) PXE-bootable diskless thin clients from Symbio and others, as well as legacy PCs that have been redeployed as diskless LTSP workstations. Mocana is shipping an IPsec/IKE implementation said to offer enterprise-grade security on resource-contrained embedded devices, without compromising functionality. “Embedded IPsec/IKE” features a 60KB footprint, and an asynchronous architecture aimed at better exploiting hardware security protocol acceleration. AMD has released a hardware/software reference design kit (RDK) for a tiny, low-power, single-board computer based on its Geode GX [email protected] processor. Linux market to top $35B by ’08, says IDC

The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) unveiled key findings from a newly completed IDC market study today, projecting that the overall revenue for desktops, servers, and packaged software running on Linux will exceed $35 billion by 2008.
