Embedded board vendor awards announced

Venture Development Corp. (VDC) today announced the recipients of its 2006 “Platinum and Gold” awards, which rate non-product characteristics of vendors of computer boards targeting companies building embedded systems and devices. Ten board vendors were awarded Platinum status, and twenty were awarded Gold status in this year's ratings. (more…)

Tux-shaped PC gains dynamic web server stack

Mobile Linux running Palm OS apps demoed

Access Systems Americas (formerly PalmSource) is showing off its device-oriented mobile Linux OS and Eclipse-based toolsuite at the EclipseCon conference this week in Santa Clara, Calif. Linux powers pair of 3G dual-mode phones

MontaVista says its device-oriented Linux operating system was used in two new 3G business smartphones from Italian handset designer Enteos. The Italian handset designer and manufacturer reportedly used MontaVista Linux Consumer Edition in forthcoming iGo 730 and LinAP smartphones. (more…)

Converged mobile device market grew robustly in 2006

The worldwide market for “converged mobile devices” topped 80 million units in 2006, up an impressive 42 percent over 2005 shipments, according to a new study from IDC. In the fourth quarter, vendors shipped a total of 23.5 million devices, 33.5 percent more than the same quarter a year ago, IDC says. (more…)
